Love and Libraries
By Mona Seghatoleslami ~ Posted Thu, 02/14/2013 - 2:11am
In addition to books, the Rochester/Monroe County Public Library has plenty of recordings (and movies) to borrow. Music librarian Judy Schewe blog called Biblipod that features listening suggestions from their collection.
Schewe invited me to jump in with classical suggestions when I get the chance, and I started out with a playlist for Valentine's Day. Check it out: Caught in a Bad Romance: Classical Music for Doomed Lovers
I hope you enjoy it! I had fun putting together the list, even though I'm not really that negative about romance. But if the anti-Valentine focus is too cynical for you, check out this list of five classical music love letters from NPR Classical's Deceptive Cadence blog: Measures of Affection: Five Musical Love Letters.

These composers have a few Valentine wishes to share with you, with help from the New York Philharmonic (sent to me by my colleague Jessica Smithorn, who shares some of the best things).
