New Fiscal Year, New Programs

As we enter our new fiscal year, I would like to thank everybody who stepped up and made membership pledges during our year-end campaign. Whether they were additional gifts or new memberships, the outpouring of support in helping us try to bridge our budget showed how important public media is to this community. So now, as we springboard into our new fiscal year, there are several exciting changes underway! On AM 1370, Here and Now — a fluid, in-depth news and conversation program — replaces Talk of the Nation from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday. NPR announced it has ceased production on Talk of the Nation and offers up Here & Now, which will include interviews with NPR hosts, reporters, editors, and bloggers, as well as news from stations across the nation. Science Friday with Ira Flatow will continue Fridays during that time. You can find more about Here & Now on the NPR website.
Meanwhile on the TV side, WXXI's weekly local news and public affairs program, Need to Know Rochester, moves from Friday night to Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. beginning July 11th. We believe it will gain an even larger audience there, while continuing to provide balanced and in-depth coverage on community issues that matter to Rochesterians. That move makes way for PBS Arts programming on Fridays with a variety of shows that spotlight dance, theatre, music and visual arts. We think it will make for a wonderful summer series and inspire viewers to discover some of the incredible cultural treasures that Rochesester and the Finger Lakes region offers!
