Wed, 03/19/2014 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm
WXXI and Eastman School of Music are pleased to announce local students who will play during the From the Top Rochester performance at Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre on March 19th.
In addition to 10 local young musicians, the program will feature world renowned flutist Sir James Galway performing two movements from Charles Gounod’s Petite Symphonie.
Nineteen-year-old Eastman School of Music student soprano Emily Helenbrook from Alexander, New York, will return to From the Top after appearing on a 2012 program recorded at the Chautauqua Institution. Sixteen-year-old Annie Jacobs-Perkins from Pittsford, principal cellist with the RPYO and Hochstein School student, will make her From the Top debut with music by Carl Davidoff.
Sir James Galway will play with an ensemble of young musicians from the Eastman School of Music and Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO). They are June Kim (ESM) and Gwen Healy (RPYO), oboes; Dominic Giardino (ESM and From the Top alum) and Jeffrey Guo (RPYO), clarinets; Quinn Delaney (ESM and From the Top alum) and Maggie Bacon (RPYO), bassoons; and Russell Rybicki (ESM) and Nikolette LaBonte (ESM), horns.
The March 19 program will also include 10-year-old violinist Pierce Wang from Fremont, California; and 16-year-old pianist Carmen Knoll from Carlstadt, New Jersey, who is a recipient of From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award.
From the Top is hosted by internationally renowned pianist Christopher O’Riley. For tickets and information, visit www.RPO.org/boxoffice. From the Top may be heard locally on Classical 91.5 on Sundays at 5:00 PM.
