Nine Days of Great Jazz Comes to an End

The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival is over, and Jazz Street has turned back to Gibbs Street. It was an amazing nine days of more than 300 performances held in 20 venues – one of which the Little Theatre was proud to be. Eighteen shows were performed at the Freed Maxick Jazz Theatre 1 on East Avenue, while Salena’s Sangriaville, located just outside the entrance of The Little’s 2-5 theaters, proved to be a popular spot for jazz goers! There they enjoyed cold drinks, great food, and respite from the bustling crowds on Gibbs and East.
WXXI presented special news coverage and jazz programming throughout the nine days – including interviews with guitarist Gabe Condon and singer/pianist Jonathan Gee on Need to Know Rochester and composer/pianist Vijay Iyer on Connections with Evan Dawson.
Back on Jazz Street, WXXI’s TV crew were in the thick of things taping four Jazz Fest concerts in Kilbourn Hall. These performances will be part of a whole new season of our nationally distributed series, Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. Watch for the series in 2015, and you can relive this year’s great Jazz Fest all over again.
