Julia Figueras welcomes Charlie Castleman, perhaps the world's most active performer/pedagogue on the violin, to Studio E.

Charlie plays the "Marquis de Champeaux" Stradivarius and Matteo Goffriller violins from 1708, and chooses from more than 80 bows in his vast collection. Backstage Pass with Charlie Castleman airs Friday, August 15 at 1 p.m., and repeats Sunday, August 17 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5.

Charlie has been soloist with a variety of orchestras around the world, including Chicago, New York, and Shanghai. Medalist atTchaikovsky and Brussels, his self-learned Jongen Concerto is included in a CD set of the 17 best prize-winning performances of the Brussels competition's 50-year history. Professor of Violin at The Eastman School of Music, Charlie has conducted master-classes at universities all over the world and over 50 U.S. Universities. He is founder/director of The Castleman Quartet Program, an intensive and extensive workshop in solo and chamber performance.
