WXXI Radio Celebrates Robert Schumann

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Robert Schumann.

To celebrate, Classical 91.5 has special plans to honor the composer, which include:

  • A new series entitled The World of Robert Schumann, airing Wednesdays at 9 p.m. and again at 10 p.m. throughout June on Classical 91.5/FM-HD91.5-1. Producer and host John Tibbetts has studied the life and music of Schumann since the early 1960s and over the last 20 years worked to produce an extraordinary documentary of his life and music. Tibbetts talks with biographers, psychiatrists, musicologists, critics and publishers, presenting dramatizations, interviews, commentary and hundreds of musical excerpts.
  • On Friday, June 4 between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Classical 91.5 morning host Brenda Tremblay asks why Robert Schumann matters?  She gets two perspectives, from pianist Gary Fisher and music therapist Betsey King of Nazareth College. And, at 1 p.m. that afternoon on AM 1370 1370 Connection's Arts Friday hosts an hour of conversation about Robert Schumann on 1370 Connection Arts Friday, (6/4) at 1:00 p.m. with these guests and retired neurosurgeon Robert Bakos.   • On Tueday, June 8, which is Schumann's birth date, Classical 91.5 will feature works by Robert Schumann, as well as some of the composers that Schumann championed as a critic throughout the day.
