Monday’s mystery piece was from J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier I: Prelude and Fugue.

Generally speaking, Bach thought of himself as an excellent craftsman rather than a musical genius. But more than three centuries after his birth, most people consider his music inspired. There’s some debate among critics whether you should hear his keyboard music played on the piano, harpsichord or organ. Which is historically appropriate? We heard Helene Grimaud.
