Bach's coffee house delights

If you love coffee as much as I do, you'd have been unspeakably happy to hear the premieres of Johann Sebastian Bach's secular concertos.  Scholars think they were first heard in a coffee shop in Leipzig, performed by the composer with a student musical society.  Today on Classical 91.5, the mystery piece was Bach's concerto for two harpsichords in C minor, played by the Academy of Ancient Music and keyboardists Christoph Rousset and Christopher Hogwood. 

Rochester chamber group Gibbs and Main embraces the idea of taking chamber music into intimate spaces where people gather for food and conversation. They play in pubs and coffee shops.  The group will release details of its 2010-2011 season later this summer.
