Connections with Evan Dawson: Ending the R-Word

Mon, 02/29/2016 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

As the "End the R Word" campaign grows, we take a closer look.

Rochester has become one of the largest regions in the country to participate in the national "Spread the Word to End the Word" day. It's all about the so-called "r word:" "retard" or "retarded." The Golisano Foundation has helped launch the local effort. On Monday, February 29 at 12 p.m. on AM 1370/WRUR-FM 88.5 and online at WXXInews.org, Connections host Evan Dawson talks with various people about the impact of using a word that has become so hurtful to so many.

In studio:

  • Steve Salluzzo, president of Bishop Kearney High School
  • Dylan Salluzzo, student at McQuaid Jesuit High School and leader of the school’s End the R-Word campaign
  • Cori Piels, inclusion specialist at Rochester AmeriCorps

Connections repeats Monday evening at 9p.m. on AM 1370, and is available online after the the 12pm show at WXXInews.org.
