Snow, Ice and Penguins on PBS World
Snow, Ice and Penguins on PBS World
Mon, 08/02/2010 - 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Cool down with an evening full of frozen lands and the creatures that live there.
The evening starts with Masters of the Arctic Ice at 7 p.m. followed by Emperors of Ice at 8 p.m. and Nature "Penguins of the Antarctic" at 9 p.m. on PBS World (cable 524/DT21.2).
Masters of the Arctic Ice
The Arctic is the largest expanse of frozen water on the planet. All creatures that make their home there are masters of survival, superbly adapted to the Arctic ice. But climate change has begun to eat away at the ice on which these creatures depend. Two teams of researchers are racing to find out how global warming is rocking the Arctic world - before there's nothing left but water.
Emperors of Ice
The emperor penguin is an icon of Antarctica. Superbly adapted to the howling gales and subzero temperatures of this frozen continent, it is a master at surviving the extremes. But in a world threatened by climate change, can it take the heat?
Nature "Penguins of the Antarctic"
Emperors and kings, chinstraps and adelies — the penguins of Antarctica all make their home in one of the most unforgiving environments on Earth. Their life has always been a constant struggle to survive, but their biggest challenge is yet to come. As the climate changes, long-established territories are being invaded and traditional nesting colonies are being disrupted. How will these extraordinary birds deal with the full effects of global warming?
