Join America's Test Kitchen as they refine recipes, sample ingredients and try out kitchen gadgets so you can choose the best of all the first time.

America's Test Kitchen Marathon airsMonday, October 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Create (cable 433/DT21.3).

Cook's Illustrated Editor-in-Chief Christopher Kimball and his team help home chefs find success in the kitchen by solving everyday cooking problems, rigorously testing equipment and tasting supermarket ingredients. The marathon features three episodes, which are described below. Viewers will also learn more about America's Test Kitchen's Julia Collin-Davison's upcoming visit to WXXI on Saturday, October 23 (which is also described delow).

Turkey on the Grill: In theory, grilling turkey is simple, but in reality the meat overcooks quickly and dries out. We take the guesswork out of this grilled holiday bird and cook up some roasted potatoes for a crispy side dish.

French Country Cooking: With our flavorful beef stew, we translate the bold, robust flavors of Provence to the home kitchen. For a finale, we balance the richness of the stew with our light, airy, melt-in-your-mouth meringues.

Everyone's Favorite Cake: In this episode, we develop an old-fashioned yellow layer cake that achieves ethereal texture and top it with a foolproof chocolate frosting with satiny texture and deep chocolate flavor. It’s so simple, you’ll never reach for another box of cake mix.
 
Saturday, October 23, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. America's Test Kitchen's Julia Collin-Davison will visit WXXI to present a cooking demonstration. Julia will be here to share stories about the series, take questions from the audience, and will be making a special dish of stir-fry shrimp with snow peas and red bell peppers in a hot and sour sauce. One lucky member of the studio audience will be chosen at random to be Julia's assistant for the demo! She'll also share her favorite cooking gadgets, conduct a mini chocolate tasting, and sign cook books. The event is co-sponsored by Palmer Food Services. They'll be providing a gorgeous spread of treats to enjoy. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by calling (585) 258-0200.
