During Julia Figueras' Shift on Classical 91.5
Hugh Wolff and Eric Townell talked to Julia Figueras .The program couldn’t be simpler: works by Lili Boulanger and Beethoven. But those pieces scheduled for your Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra are almost epic: a dark setting of Psalm 130 by Boulanger, never before performed by your RPO and Beethoven’s 9th. Guest conductor Hugh Wolff and Rochester Oratorio Society Music Director Eric Townell talked to Julia Figueras about the two works. Along the way, they discussed the power and popularity of the 9th, the dark and enigmatic quality of the Boulanger, and the impact those works had on those that followed.
