Picture the Impossible

a community-wide game created by
Rochester Institute of Technology and
the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

The game engages members of the
community in exploration of the City of
Rochester, and encourages both creativity
and charitable giving in the community. Players participate in a range of activities, including casual web-based games, games that bring players out to events and locations throughout the city, and games that involve the tangible aspects of the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper itself.

Each week game activities will focus on a different theme related to the history and culture of Rochester, including imaging, social justice, food, music, arts and crafts, and "Rochester firsts."

WXXI will provide weekly updates on the game during its Mixed Media radio segment, heard Wednesdays at 5:44 p.m. on AM 1370 and WRUR-FM 88.5. Video clips for the weekly theme clues are provided by WXXI and these independent community producers: Anthony Machi (Albert Paley) Virginia Bacheler (Public Market) Carvin Eison, Chris Christopher (July 64).

The game ends with a gala costume ball 10/31 and other weekly prizes. Three factions will play to raise money for charity.

Registeration begins Saturday, September 5, 2009 and the game begins on Saturday, September 12, 2009 and runs through October 30, 2009.

More about the game’s name

“Picture the Impossible” is a reference to Rochester's incredible history related to photography and imaging (Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, and Pictometry were all founded here), as well as our even more incredible history of people accomplishing things everyone thought was impossible (like Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass, among many others).
