Doctor Who: Series 6
(Rochester, New York) – The acclaimed science fiction program, Doctor Who: Series 6 premieres Saturday, August 4 at 11 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11). The series follows the adventures of the time-traveling, humanoid alien Doctor and his companions. Originally aired on BBC, WXXI-TV is proud to bring viewers access to the praised British television series starring Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, and Alex Kingston as River Song. The Doctor Who series was created by Sydney Newman, C. E. Webber, and Donald Wilson.
Impossible Astronaut is the premiere episode. After Amy, Rory, and River receive envelopes instructing them to meet at a specific time and place in Utah, they meet the Doctor at a lake and learn of an upcoming trip to “Space 1969.” After a mysterious figure in a spacesuit appears to kill the Doctor, the group soon learns that the late Doctor was actually himself aged 200 years. The young Doctor then joins the group and leads them on a time-traveling adventure to 1969 and the Presidency of Richard Nixon, not knowing of his upcoming demise in Utah. The team encounters the Silence in Washington, D.C. and works together to understand what their interaction with the 200 years older Doctor meant.
Doctor Who airs Saturdays at 11 p.m. throughout August.
