State of the Re:Union with Al Letson “Southeastern Washington: The Unlikely Perfect Place”
(Rochester, NY) – State of the Re:Union with Al Letson presents “Southeastern Washington: The Unlikely Perfect Place”, airing Sunday, August 19 at 9 p.m. on WXXI AM 1370/FM-HD91.5-2. The program explores the Tri-Cities of Richland, Pasco and Kennewick situated in the vast plains and deserts of Washington state.
The Tri-Cities are clustered near one another in the vast plains and deserts of Washington state, to the east of the Cascade Mountains. It’s a region that seems like it would have little to attract newcomers—it’s largely remote, prone to dust storms, not close to any major city. But, over the decades, this area has drawn people from the world over, and, in this episode, we’ll explore how and why. The rise of the nuclear age in America brought prosperity and brilliant scientific minds to Southeastern Washington in the 1940s. However, along with wealth and development came responsibility for a weapon of terrible consequence. Along with the history of the region, State of the Re:Union visits the Wampum Tribe and explores their fight to preserve their land, heritage, and existence. Finally, listeners are told stories of the many different persons who call Southeastern Washington and the Tri-Cities their homes.
State of the Re:Union was created by Al Letson and has set out to explore American communities, the ways people transcend challenging circumstance, and the vital cultural narratives that give an area or community its uniqueness. Season Three of State of the Re:Union seeks to continue the exploration of American communities, cities, towns, and cultures and the incredible stories found across the nation.
