Backstage Pass with Members from the Gateways Music Festival
(Rochester, New York) -- Host Julia Figueras welcomes members from the Gateways Music Festival to perform, airing Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1, before a live audience of WXXI’s sustaining members. The program repeats Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Pianist Terrence Wilson, violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins, and trumpeter Herbert Smith will perform. Gateways is celebrating its 20th anniversary season at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, featuring African-American musicians from throughout the United States in recitals and concerts.
The mission of the festival is to increase the visibility of classical musicians of African descent and to heighten public awareness of the contributions to classical music by musicians of African descent. WXXI is an official media partner for the 2013 Festival, which takes place in Rochester from August 14 – 18.
Backstage Pass is a live, hour-long radio series that is committed to highlighting performing artists – giving Classical 91.5/90.3/FM-HD 91.5-1 listeners the opportunity to hear local and visiting musicians performing live. The series is made possible in part by a grant from the Gouvernet Arts Fund at Rochester Area Community Foundation.
