Dirk Gently

(Rochester, New York) - Dirk Gently stars Stephen Mangan (Green Wings, Showtime's Episodes), as an eccentric private detective with a completely unique take on the world. Gently—who is perpetually broke, socially inept, and utterly infuriating—believes in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things and applies this philosophy to his investigations into everyday mysteries from missing cats to murder. Dirk Gently, a four-part series, airs Saturdays at 11 p.m. beginning April 12, 2014 on WXXI-TV.

Based on the cult novel "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" by Douglas Adams ("Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"), Dirk Gently is a quirky journey into the world of a private detective. The pilot episode shows Gently lumping a new refrigerator into his fees to find Mrs. Jordan's feline, running into his old sidekick MacDuff and causing an explosion in a warehouse. But soon, the ne'er do-well detective finds the not-so-obvious connections between cases and ultimately saves the day.

Combining the best elements of proven British hits such as Sherlock, Doctor Who, Life on Mars and Doc Martin, Dirk Gently is an intelligent comedy drama series sure to take viewers on a quirky and hilarious journey to the truth. Darren Boyd (Little Dorrit) and Helen Baxendale (Cold Feet; Friends) also star in this funny and wonderfully written show.
