Renata Scotto: A Legend Looks Back
(Rochester, New York) – Legendary soprano Renata Scotto recalls her life, from her earliest memories as a young girl falling in love with opera, through her thriving career in this special. Renata Scotto: A Legend Looks Back, hosted by baritone Thomas Hampson, airs Monday, April 21, 2014 at 8 p.m. on Classical 91.5.
According to friends, this Italian diva who dominated the stage for 40 years, isn’t one to dwell on the past. The word is, the retired singer doesn’t even own a piano. Instead she throws her musical passions into teaching, directing, even a little costume design. Her 1960 American debut as Mimì at Lyric Opera of Chicago began an incredible 50 year relationship (and counting) with that company; she directed Lyric’s 2007 production of La Bohème, and Un Ballo in Maschera in 2010.
