Backstage Pass with The Amenda Quartet and Friends
(Rochester, NY) - The Amenda Quartet and Friends will join Julia Figueras for this month's Backstage Pass to perform, share how the quartet was formed, and talk about their upcoming performance at the First Unitarian Church on September 28. The group, who will be joined by guest violist Maria Lambros and cellist Michael Kannen, will perform Beethoven and a movement of the Kodaly. Backstage Pass with the Amenda Quartet and Friends airs Friday, September 26 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5.
Violinists David Brickman and Patricia Sunwoo, violist Melissa Matson, and cellist Mimi Hwang make up the Amenda Quartet. Formed in January, 2010, the Amenda Quartet was founded by Sunwoo, who had long entertained the notion of performing a "Beethoven cycle" -- that is, performing all 16 of Beethoven's string quartets in a series of concerts. The Beethoven quartets are revered by musicians and loved by audiences. Spanning the master's creative life, within them one finds expressed the spectrum of human experience - joy and anger, jocularity and gravity, despair and exaltation. It was with little difficulty that Sunwoo enlisted three colleagues to undertake the project which might be considered the "Mount Everest" of the chamber music repertoire.
Backstage Pass is a monthly live performance program that gives listeners the backstage experience of meeting local and visiting artists. This program will repeat on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5.
