Take a Trip to Urinetown

Sat, 01/14/2012 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Webster Theatre Guild celebrates its 75th year of bringing Broadway to Webster with Urinetown The Musical, on stage at Webster Thomas High School from January 21 through 28.

Directed by J. Simmons, Urinetown satirizes the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics. Produced on Broadway in 2001, it won three Tony Awards, including best book.

Scott Shutts will join host Robert Hammond in studio for a free-flowing discussion about Urinetown, in which he plays the role of Officer Lockstock, the tongue-in-cheek narrator.  Shutts has been performing in the Rochester area for more than a decade, and has appeared with several local theater organizations, including Webster Theatre Guild, Pittsford Musicals, Everyone's Theatre Company, RAPA, Geva, and Irondequoit Theatre Guild. He has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.  Notable roles include the title role in Jekyll & Hyde, Bobby in Company, Matt in The Fantasticks, Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees, and Claude in Hair.  Scott is a graduate of the University of Rochester and earned his MA from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications.
