Classical 91.5 This week’s Stage Notes is out of sight! Join host Robert Hammond as he showcases Broadway musicals from the 70s. Seriously, dude, this program is far out! Can you dig it?
The 1970s were a time of great growth, on and off Broadway. Some of the most groundbreaking shows in the history of musical theatre were created in the same decade as disco—occasionally, the two even melded.
The 70s is the decade when Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber would become the top composers in musical theatre, with shows like Company, Sweeney Todd, Follies, and A Little Night Music. The 70s also saw the dancer take center stage with what would become the longest running show in Broadway history (until Cats), A Chorus Line.
Be there or be square!
