Love and Loss on Broadway and in Rochester

Sat, 01/26/2013 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Love often has a starring role in Broadway musicals and in some of the most famous songs recorded. Death is there, too—after all, death is part of life. Join host Robert Hammond as he highlights songs from the Great White Way and beyond that inspire and sadden.  Have tissues ready.

April Bloch with her beloved dog, Maya

This special edition of Stage Notes is in memory of Rochester native April Bloch, who died on November 15, 2012.  She was twenty-six.  Although raised in Rochester, she was definitely  a California girl, who spent the last six years of her life in LA.  April deeply loved the arts, including Broadway musicals. She was a poet. She was a friend to anyone she met.

Nicolette Hart

Rochester native and Broadway star Nicolette Hart will join Robert to talk about her time in the Broadway company and tour of RENT, and in particular, the song "Seasons of Love." Her father is a resident at the Jewish Home in Rochester.

David Burnham

Broadway veteran David Burnham will discuss his song "Fly Again," which he dedicated to his mom who died of cancer a few years ago.  The song is on his new CD, One Day.

Grammy winning producer Ian Brennan will join Robert on Stage Notes in February.  He said the following about music and other forms of art:  "Music and other forms of art are by far the most effective kind of social-work that exists. A single, nameless one-hit wonder brings more comfort to the world than almost any single psychologist can hope to in a lifetime."
