The envelopes have been opened. The winners have their trophies.  The 2013 Academy Awards are history.   Many musicals were featured during the program causing some to say the award ceremony “felt more like the Tony Awards than the Oscars.”

Join host Robert Hammond for Broadway Goes Hollywood Act Two. After eighty-five Academy Award ceremonies and hundreds of films nominated for Best Motion Picture, still only ten of those winning films have been musicals.  Although nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Les Miserables only won three: Best Sound Mixing, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, and Anne Hathaway won Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

The American Film Institute defines a “musical” as "a feature-length film in which music and lyrics significantly advance the plot, develop character, or are otherwise integral to the film narrative."
