Why Volunteer at WXXI

Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of WXXI. Every part of WXXI’s many endeavors to present music, culture, education and special events benefits from the efforts of our volunteers. Folks like you who donate their skills, time and spirit to support public broadcasting in our community.

For more information and to indicate your availability to volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Registration Form.

Some of the volunteer opportunities available include:

Pledge Drives
Answer telephones and take pledges when viewers and listeners call in their membership support. Radio campaigns are scheduled for February, May, and October; television drives are scheduled for March, September, and December.
If you are interested in bringing in a group of volunteers to answer phones during a TV drive, email volunteer@wxxi.org, or call (585) 258-0249 for information.

Docent/tour guide
When groups of visitors want to see the WXXI radio and television studios, you could be leading the way. We will train you and make sure you have all of the information you’ll need to answer our visitor’s questions and show off WXXI’s state of the art broadcast facilities.

Membership and Special Events
Lend your administration skills to a variety of mailings and data entry in our membership office.
Help out at WXXI’s special events throughout the year. Event volunteers assist with set-up, decorations, greeting people and registration, and much more! WXXI events include Speaking of Women’s Health Conference, Community Cinema screenings, Met at the Movies, festival booths, and station events.

Auction

• Help generate auction donations through telemarketing and data entry
• Assist in developing accurate descriptions and presentations of donated items through your expertise in photography or script writing
• Deliver donated items to WXXI
• Help successful bidders in picking up their merchandise
• Mail awards or certificates to successful bidders

Reachout Radio

Be a reader for Reachout Radio, a 24-hour service, which provides access to printed materials to those who are visually impaired or print handicapped.
