Mary has been a volunteer for WXXI for more than 28 years. Her volunteer work started in the mid-1980s when she began reading for Reachout Radio, WXXI 24-radio reading service for people with visual impairments. In the late 1990s she expanded her volunteer role and began spending time in WXXI’s Creative Services department – managing the station’s press clipping files and proofing press releases, the monthly program guide, presentations, and other collateral materials.

Other volunteers recognized during the awards ceremony included:

  • Mary DeFranco received the Troops Award,
  • John and Pat Schmeelk received the Dynamic Duo Award,
